An 2026 Odysseus POV

I’m a poet, a history lover, an agnostic, a reader, a film watcher, and sister of one that has taught classics for years and believes in the necessity of passing down these epic works—I loved this movie. It hit on human rights and animal rights and dignity, showed us the heartbreaking acts of man regarding relationships that we share with our non-human kin. The treatment of Argos completely gutted me. I think Rubsum is lacking in this assessment of the film, the meaning behind making sure Odysseus is passed through the generations.

In times like these when scrolling takes the place of reading Homer, if this film is what non-readers get from the story, I’m okay with that.

I am okay with showing the dark and demoralizing side of war and highlighting how decisions to go to war impacted all the islands in the region. I also argue that the scene with Circe held a lot of mystical energy and symbolism, will depart with a quote from my sister, “maybe Nolan is just a bard.” And I think Nolan is a good bard.
