October sixteenth

Would it ever hurt to leave
those moments of staring into the mountains?
The light tower on Mount Elden—

I cry for it, not knowing what will become
of the heart lost within boulders, grey
against  the sky and the far off sea.

Seven points make up the Big Dipper.
and they always stay in position—
as we look above the light tower on Mount Elden.

Nights spent a midst the culture dish of stars—
shining in from the past.  Light years
away from anywhere I could find myself.

Early morning, Flagstaff, coming all around me
with the common chill of elevation.
And I wonder would it ever hurt to leave
that light tower on Mount Elden?
