October twelfth

Talking

The way you talk to me
In short bursts I don’t understand

Long short Long short
Your yellow eyes catch
All the light in the room
Until all I see is you
Glow in the dark

The way you talk to me
Always in tones I don’t understand

But recognize food, water
Outside
Repeat

Two syllables
Four feet
The whole world is full
Bugs to chase
Tall grass in your teeth
And the unknown street

Inside you are like a yeti
Talking, screaming
Settling down for nothing
But warmth
Finally your heartbeat evens
And you are left on the bed
In the dark.
